Monitor Your Blood Pressure

High blood pressure is one of the most important and easily controlled risk factors. So it's important to know your blood pressure! It is essential to have BP set on our own..boleh check tekanan darah bila2 masa pun..kan?
Blood pressure is given in two numbers, for example 120/80. The first number, the systolic blood pressure, is a measurement of the force your blood exerts on blood vessel walls as your heart pumps. The second, diastolic blood pressure, is the measurement of the force your blood exerts on blood vessel walls when your heart is at rest between beats.
For people over age 18, normal blood pressure is lower than 120/80. A blood pressure reading consistently higher than 120/80 is pre-hypertension. If you falls in this range, you are more likely to progress to high blood pressure. High blood pressure, also called hypertension, is a reafing of 140/90 or higher.

Sometimes blood pressure can be controlled through diet and exercise. Even light exercise - brisk walk, bicycle ride, swim or yard work - can make a difference. Adult should fo some form of moderate physical activity for at least 30 minutes five or more days per week, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention ( kalau di Malaysia..kempen gaya hidup sihat..bersenam sekurang2nya 40 minit, 3 kali seminggu) if i'm not mistaken lah..heeee :) Remember.. Regular exercise may reduce your risk for stroke. Before you start an exrrcise program, check with your doctor..

Stroke Risk Factor

Stroke risk factor you can't change include:
- Your age - the older you are, the higher your risk
- Being a man
Someone in your family has had a stroke
( oh ya, since this article is from US, so being African American also included in the risk factor). Having one or more of these factors doesn't mean you will have a stroke. By making simple lifestyle changes, you may be able to reduce the risk of a first or recurrent stroke.
These simple lifestyle changes can greatly reduce your chance of having a stroke:
- Monitor your blood pressure; if it is high, make sure it is treated.
- Find out if you have atrial fibrillation (an irregular heartbeat which allow blood to pool in the heart and cause blood clot) - kadar degupan jantung yg tidak tetap.
- Quit smoking.
- Limit alcohol.
- check your cholesterol levels and make sure bad cholesterol is controlled.
- manage your diabetes
- Exercise often.
-Eat foods low in sodium (salt) and saturated or trans fat.
- monitor circulation problem with the help of your doctor..
TO BE CON'T :)

Preventing Another Stroke

Assalamualaikum and very good evening to all..how are you?i hope everyone is in good health and in a good shape..hi everyone..this is Azie, writing from Jinjang, KL...it's been a month since i've transferred from Sabah..the weather is not so good..the haze is worsening and also we have this water rations since yesterday.. life is tough but i think i can cope with it quite well..haha..just to senangkan hati sendiri.. Okay, enough with the brief introduction or more to brief whining, now let's talk about this one serious matter..i took this article from Book Of Hope, National Stroke Association..this article is quite good and i hope you it might gives us lots of info especially for those who suffering from stroke or those who have relatives who suffering from stroke..
After stroke, survivors tend to focus on rehabilitation and recovery. But, preventing another (or recurrent) stroke is also a key concern. Of the 795000 Americans who have a stroke each year, 5 or 14 percent will have a second stroke within one year. Within five years, a stroke will recur in 24 percent of women and 42 percent of men.
YOUR LIFESTYLE CHOICES :
Everyone has some stroke risk. But, there are two types of stroke risk factors. One type you can't control. The other one you can. TO BE CON'T.... :)
